Vanderbilt Medical Center Shares Technology
ICA’s solution is based on technology developed by practicing physicians at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Several years ago, a team of hospital and biomedical informatics staff began work on a solution to address inefficient paperwork and communication processes among Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s four hospitals and 120 affiliated clinics. With a goal of designing a system that fit intuitively into the clinical process, the team initially sought to organize and integrate all the hospital’s patient records to improve care delivery.
After analyzing procedures and inefficiencies, the team proposed an aggregation platform with overlaid workflow tools. This solution allowed the hospital, its medical staff, and other clinicians to streamline clinical processes while maintaining existing technology investments. The system has evolved to include data-driven care pathways, point-of-care literature access, information and tools for patients, and other quality improvements.
